Beam condition monitoring
We need to continuously monitor the beam conditions for the purpose of data quality (e.g. to correlate them with unexplained issues), MC (to use representative beam conditions) and LHC feedback.
A part of this monitoring will be provided by a dedicated monitoring task, which will feed on the vertex-based luminosity lines (see #223). However, as the rate to the monitoring farm will be in the order of 10 kHz, detailed monitoring can only be done within HLT1 (or asynchronously, if events are persisted). Such a monitoring can be based on the vertex lumi lines and/or use physics PVs for the luminous region.
The following monitoring histograms will be beneficial to have in HLT1 (in decreasing priority)
-
selected vertex Z position split per bx type (and line) -
luminous region Z as function of BCID -
2D luminous region profiles (XZ, YZ and XY) -
(possibly) 2D beam-gas profiles for each beam
