Small cleanup in PixeldEdxData, also discovered and fixed a bug whereby an argument passed by value was updated in a function with the expectation that the updated value would be visible to the caller. Cleanups introduced according to https://its.cern.ch/jira/browse/ATLASRECTS-5212
