post.sh: Cleanup and add unit tests

Remove some unused features in the default unit test post-processing script (post.sh):

• Remove afs fallback for references files
• Remove feature to specify ref file via environment variable

Further changes:

• Remove creation of intermediate rep files
• Add unit tests for post.sh in preparation for larger changes to come
