Extrapolator: try to clean up a bit the legacy configuration level

In principle we have no "strategy" methods since the interface cleanup for MT few years back.

So there is no such mode that would allow most of the cases where we do not have configured valid propagators to work.

I left something better named that somehow conveys the indent.
