While doing some tests in !618 (merged), I realised that VP1LightExternals did just not want to build for x86_64-ubuntu1804-gcc8-opt either with or without LCG_96. These were the fixes necessary to make both of those builds successful. (Without LCG it's also possible to build VP1LightExternals for the x86_64-ubuntu1804-gcc7-opt platform...)
