Remove FilterDesktop and selection framework

Step 2 of #358 . FilterDesktop is obsolete and needs to go.

CombineParticles will be removed in a subsequent MR.

The selection framework that relies on it is removed as well. This is the base of the legacy stripping code, replaced by PyConf.
