Cleanup of L1item use in CF Chain class & related utilities

Another menu cleanup campaign. This time got rid of L1item use in the CF Chain class and related functions. In the end, it was used only for debug printouts. All other uses are superseded by the direct use of L1 thresholds. Tagging @fpastore @bernius
