library updated to work with new CREST server version

obo Mikhail Mineev The interface to the CREST database is being developed actively in master but is not enabled by default, so these changes do not affect any part of production code.

The backend CREST database server has a new interface introducing new methods and protocols. The changes here restore compatibility of the API with that interface so that development may continue.
