MuonR4 - Streamline sensitive detectors... Write only latest snapshot of a G4 hit
Secondary electrons randomly walk through the gas volume due to missing electric field in the drift tubes & the gasGaps -> Adapt the strategy how to deal with them. In general, multiple steps of the same G4 tracks are contracted to a single hit:
Mdt: take the walk segment, that's closest to the tube wire
Strips: Straighten the random walk from the first -> the last point of all steps performed in the same volume
Introduce the common MuonSensitiveDetector class to abstract the boler code creating the sim hits etc. In 250k di muon events, the new strategy shrinks the file size from 1.6G to 1.4G. Plots below confirm no impact on the segment reconstruction performance:
