Ubuntu-17.10 Fixes, 1.0 branch (2018.02.15.)

These are some fixes to make the build work a bit better on Ubuntu 17.10 with GCC 7.2.

Unfortunately the build at this point is still not successful, as numpy-1.11 can't be built with GCC 7.2. But that will only be fixed when we switch the analysis releases to LCG_92.
