We made a study in LHCb some months ago of what might be the optimal compression for our DST files, see LBCORE-1116. The conclusion was that there is little to gain in terms of compression between LZMA:4 and LZMA:6, but LZMA:4 is considerably faster. This was validated with our Stripping26 production (i.e. 2016 physics analysis dataset). We propose therefore to change the Gaudi default to LZMA:4.
