Documentation of AnalysisProduction with ReStripping
Simulation samples are usually prepared with a specific stripping version. Sometimes, an updated selection is developed and released in a re-stripping campaign, but the outdated MC is not regenerated to avoid waste of resources. There is indeed the possibility in the legacy DaVinci to re-run a stripping selection on a stripping-flagged MC sample. Stripping-flagged here means that all the events in the MC production are anyway retained even if not selected by the stripping (as opposite to Stripping-filtered sometimes used in case of very low retention rates).
The issue is that the software has been developed as such that is best to restrip the dataset with the specific version of DaVinci that was used to run the stripping in the first place. In case any tuple tool is subsequently released, it would not be usable in a single job.
The solution is to run the AnalysisProduction job in two steps:
- Restrip the MC sample with the relevant DaVinci version and produce a new dst file
- Run the tuple-making on the newly produced dst file with the version of DaVinci that includes the latest version of the tuple tool.
This is possible but not documented yet, the issue will be solved once an example will be added to the AnalysisProductions
documentation.
