MDF code updated to prepare for license update

  • Use ROOT library to decompress compressed events instead of copying and modifying the source file. ROOT is LGPL, linking to ROOT allows a release under Apache-2, while copying a source file does not.
  • Remove unused checksum functions with unclear licenses; the remaining function is public domain.
