Draft: TV Flexible DAQ Block/Box Implementation
A summary branch of previous "conservative readout" and "secondary vacuum interface" studies. Combining changes in veloU2_conReadoutNew and veloU2_conReadoutNew_preRebase.
The main changes are in the paramaters.xml, and fundamentally change the FEHybrids, converting them into "readout blocks" with copper routing connecting them to the ASICs. For that reason, this is a new TV version rather than adding to the scoping baseline model.
The secondary vacuum interface is a brand new component "TV:DAQBox", switched off by a new TV:ActivateDAQVacuumBox variable in all parameter files
Not expecting this branch to be merged, but could evolve into future models
Settings used in this MR (example):
- Shift of 85mm, barrier rad = 12cm, max ASIC->readout block distance ~ 10cm
- 60mm x 40 x 0.4 mm readout block, representing DC/DC conv. + lpgbt and vtrx+ for control
- 0.2mm thick copper "routing" making connection
- 2.5mm thick aluminium box vacuum interface
- 5mm thick Al. vacuum flanges at each module z
- Half density LV cables from edge of readout bloc
- No horizontal separation between the DAQ blocks (see example below) These can be tuned logically
Fixes before merge-ready:
-
Remove overlaps with better cutouts - This has been achieved by cutting out a horizontal section where the pipes are
-
Add parameter for split readout block - Added
TV:ConReadoutSplitBlocksto facilitate this
- Added
-
Propagate changes to xml to baseline/low folders so the only difference between versions is the parameters.xml file
Potential Extensions ToDo:
(See Raphael design)
- Extend substrate to readout block for more realistic model
- add gaps in DAQ box to emulate realistic secondary vacuum
These extensions have now been considered to be too specific to "one VELO UII design" and is therefore not implemented for now. The splitting of the substrate into two module halves is priority for the iris design and this will come in a subsequent MR. The split of the readout block from back to back is included as this is easy and flexible. Adding gaps to TV:DAQBox requires significant work to create a complex realistic shape with thicker structural regions + thinned regions, and needs integrating with !649 for a full "iris" design.
The versioning is called branch-run5-NewDAQBlockBox for now, but this is subject to change.
Isolating Changes from the XML Re-Structuring
An edit to master has been made to show what we have actually changed for the addition of the "DAQ block" version of the geometry, with comparison here.
