Get buffers better

Kate Abigail Richardson requested to merge get_buffers_better into master

In the pit today the onliners informed us that the way we were getting the input buffers in the configuration was incorrect and this way will work for both LHCb and FEST. The current way does not work for FEST because there are no BUs in FEST.
